Minimizing Impacts by providing low-cost campgrounds (3)
The Bishop Field Office of the Bureau of Land Management has done an outstanding job of minimizing impacts on the fragile landscapes of the Eastern Sierra Nevada of California by offering low-cost camping alternatives to visitors. These are especially attractive to young people, those on a budget, and those who would like to stay more than a week or two in the area. The BLM and The American Alpine Club also offer free coffee sessions to communicate with visitors about ways to protect the precious natural and cultural resources (including many petroglyphs) of this spectacular region. -
Free Coffee with a Ranger - Camp 4 in Yosemite Valley (2)
For the past ten years, The American Alpine Club and the National Park Service have effectively collaborated to sponsor these events from May to September. These highly popular and low-key programs help visitors and park managers to communicate and work together to minimize impacts plus establish long-term park stewardship connections. -
